The atelier · Valenza

Since 1962, in a courtyard in Valenza, we have worked gold the way it was always done: slowly, by hand, one piece at a time. No storefront, no catalog. Only what deserves to last.

— The Valli family

The solitaire in profile, inside a disc of warm light

This is the same goldsmith's bench at which Ernesto Valli cast his first ring. Today his grandchildren, Livia and Tommaso, work at it with twelve master goldsmiths and stone setters. Every piece begins with a pencil drawing and a stone chosen by eye, under the loupe, from among hundreds.

The Aurora solitaire

Anatomy of a promise.

Four stages, three hundred and forty hours.

Pencil drawing of the solitaire, front and side views, with measurements, a pencil and a caliper
01

The design

Pencil, paper and the hand that will wear the ring. Proportions are decided on the finger, not on a computer.

02

The casting

18-karat gold, cast in our workshop, then drawn and filed until the light flows along the shank without a break.

03

The setting

Four prongs shaped around the stone, one at a time, under the loupe. Strong enough to last a century, fine enough to disappear.

The light

A final polish by hand, then the diamond meets its first ray of light. It is the only moment when the piece is truly finished.
